Our Plan

A roadmap to strengthen our regional economy

Our mission is to create an environment for current and future businesses and our resident workforce to thrive. Our 2030 plan builds on the idea that businesses emerge or relocate to communities where there is a supply of talent and interesting, diverse, and attractive places to live, work, and enjoy a high quality of life.

For our plan to be a success, we must address 3 key challenges:
  • an aging workforce
  • inadequate infrastructure
  • expected job loss due to shrinking industries and the pandemic

To do this, we need to:
  • attract younger workforce to the South Shore
  • address our infrastructure needs and increase capacity for growth
  • and attract new and diverse businesses to the region

Our Focus

Housing

Encouraging more housing options that attract our next generation of workers and keep our population of retirees by collaborating, advocating, and supporting housing initiatives on state & municipal levels
Infrastructure
Increasing both water, wastewater, and transportation capacity by working with local communities, experts, and landowners to study and determine solutions that support smart growth and advancement
Job Creation

Supporting existing businesses and recruiting new businesses and start-ups to the region in order to invest in our communities, attract workforce, and build a more diverse economy
Placemaking
Highlighting our region's assets and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people's health, happiness, and well-being.

Reality Check

Picture
The South Shore is aging faster than any other metro Boston region.
Picture
Employment is high in industries that are
consolidating and shedding jobs.
Picture
Lack of housing limits employers' ability to recruit and retain talent.
Picture
Infrastructure challenges - water, wastewater, and intraregional transportation limits our community growth.
