The SSEDC’s Housing Committee supports the Union Point development in Weymouth, Rockland & Abington (4,000+ new homes at full buildout). The project offers an opportunity to create a whole new hub within the region that answers not only housing needs, but other economic needs. The project’s proximity to the South Weymouth Commuter Rail & the Rt. 18 corridor makes the area more attractive to both a younger talent pool priced out of the Boston market and downsizing baby boomers. There is currently a mix of 55+ housing and market rate housing. Miles of walking trails, a farmer’s market, community hockey rink and more recently a sports complex have been added. This is a catalyst project with potential to spread additional development and investment to surrounding communities.
